The Oaks Historic Homestead, Boutique Accommodation, Darfield New Zealand

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in The Oaks Historic Homestead.

Originally built as the first Race Course Hill Homestead in the 1850's, The Oaks Historic Homestead had to make way for the "new" Homestead in 1912.

The property was moved by track engine over State Highway 73 to its present location and was used as a residential property.

In 2002 the property was lovingly restored by its present owner, Madeleine de Jong, to its former glory. Most of the original features of the Homestead have been preserved and The Homestead is still heated by its original fireplaces and the atlas kitchen coal range. The Homestead was extended by a stunning living/dining room and all accommodation rooms with private and/or en suite bath room facilities. This is to allow the Oaks to take on a new lease of life as The Oaks Historic Homestead. With it’s distinctive verandahs and alcove windows, The Oaks is a well known feature for travelers on State Highway 73 offering boutique style accommodation and a fresh, local and where ever possible organic Cuisine.

The Homestead features it’s own organic vegetable garden which is an integral part of the food preparation
